Good evening everyone,
Today at 4PM, Superintendents across the State met with Commissioner Watson to discuss the current COVID-19 concerns. Tonight at 6PM, Governor Kelly supported the recommendation from Dr. Watson to suspend all school activities across Kansas for the week of March 16-20. At this point Franklin County schools will still be closed through March 30. Tomorrow morning USD 290 will be continuing work with the Kansas State Department of Education and Kansas Department of Health and Environment to develop some guidelines for schools including student learning, providing meals to students, staffing, and establishing what might need to happen in order for our schools to reopen. This is a very fluid situation and every day is bringing more challenges. We will continue to defer to our local and State health officials for guidance. Our major focus at this point is to ensure the safety of our students and staff, as well as the community overall.
I know that there are still many more questions than answers. As before, I appreciate your patience and support. As we know more information I will continue to try and pass it along as best I can.
Sincerely,
Ryan Cobbs
