In 2008 the Ottawa Optimist Club started a program to recognize students at Ottawa High School as Unsung Heroes. This award was to be given to students who have overcome adversity or obstacles in their lives to become successful or who demonstrate a positive attitude at school without calling attention to themselves. The staff at Ottawa High School is responsible for nominations and the Ottawa Optimist Club is responsible for selecting the recipients. The award is presented to a maximum of 2 members from each class at OHS. Each recipient will receive $50 and a plaque from the Franklin County Optimist Club.
